The top designer Alexandra Popescu-York will introduce the new "Magnetic" luxury collection on February 10, 2018 at 6 pm at the 27th Couture Fashion Week, in New York.

The new collection combines avant-garde elements and sophisticated accessories through which the creator conveys emotion and manages to amaze each time.

For Alexandra Popescu-York it is the ninth consecutive season of the prestigious fashion event she attends. She is the only artist-designer in the world who has so far presented at such an event both a fashion couture collection and a painting exhibition.

Although many designers confine themselves to creating clothes, which they sell on websites or in physical stores, Alexandra Popescu-York is proud to make fashion shows. She does not create dresses but concepts. Not clothes of a season but trends, movements, emotions.

Currently, Alexandra is one of Couture Fashion Week's most respected designers because she puts great price on originality. For each presentation she comes up with a new concept to everything thought up to now, created by new, personal experiences.

She believes that the most important thing as a designer, is that your product is original. "Authenticity is increasingly rare in the world of fashion," says the creator.

After having worked in several companies as chief designer in Europe and America and saw that more emphasis has been put on industry and not art in fashion, about ten years ago, she decided to lay the foundations of her own business, Alexandra Art&Design, in an attempt to change the mentality and the way things go in a world aching for profit.

"The fashion industry just wants to sell huge quantities to make big profits. And in the big companies people are employed, in positions of designer and creative director, people who have nothing to do with fashion, education or artistic sense ... And I want to remind everyone that authenticity exists and that we can choose special things. No “fast fashion”, but “high fashion”, Alexandra Popescu-York explains.

She also adds, fashion without art is not fashion, it's just industry, just functionality. "Many companies are rolling in thousands and millions of uniforms, and the average consumer is thrilled by the low prices that these things have, which does not differentiate them to the other consumers of that brand ", explains the creator.

With the first fashion collections she has launched, Alexandra has been appreciated by valuable people in the high fashion field and was invited to present at „Fashion Week”, in New York. For almost ten years, she has been investing all her time and resources to grow both as a designer and as an artist, and creates collections with great artistic and social impact.

She's used to building patterns directly on the mannequin rather than on the table, as other designers do. Over time, she created dresses without side seams, with hundreds of stitches, and she admits that she uses the classic pattern very rarely. More specifically, only when it is needed. "The authenticity of a designer also involves the use of fabrics, which no one else has," explains Alexandra Popescu-York.

Many times she paints on the material, embroids or completely alters the texture by overlapping. "It is said that you cannot reinvent the wheel, but I am stubborn to prove that you can be original in fashion," says the young lady.

Alexandra Popescu-York is painting since the age of three and had studied fashion design and plastic art at the University of Arts in Bucharest.

Established for over ten years in America, she has an impressive track record of national and international fashion shows and exhibitions.

Among the many recognitions awarded include the inclusion in the presentation of Couture Fashion Week's Best Designers received in September 2016 and the inclusion of her paintings in the Art Exhibition at the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations in New York.

As short-term plans, Alexandra set as goal to become even more involved in promoting Romania in the world.

"Romania must start accepting, appreciating and promoting Romanian artists from abroad! It is said that for an artist you have to have your people behind, to support you and then to conquer the world. I conquered the world and then I showed them that I came from a beautiful country that I invite them to know", the designer concludes.

“Couture Fashion Week" is a prestigious fashion festival that takes place in New York, featuring luxury collections.
